Government through the Luwingu Town Council has started constructing the first ever Modern Bus Terminus in Luwingu District of Northern Province at an estimated cost of over K8 million .
Luwingu District Commissioner Chomba Chileshe commissioned the Ground Breaking Ceremony for the construction of the Modern Bus Station on Saturday morning ,at Luwingu’s Forestdale area. Mr. Chileshe said the 100 by 90 metres Bus Terminus will be built within a period of three years and TINNA INVESTMENT LTD (TLC) will carry out Phase 1 works at a projected cost of K2.1 million, using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
He said the execution of the project in phases was aimed at giving room for the implementation of other significant projects in the district. And speaking at the same event, Lubansenshi law maker Hon.Taulo Chewe called on residents of Luwingu to support the contractor identified to carry out the works.
Hon.Chewe added that the Zambia Public Procurement Act (ZPPA),defines a local contractor as any bonafide citizen of Zambia from any were within the country , saying that the application of tenders at the council was not limited to Luwingu contractors only .He said it was for this reason that the Electronic-Government Procurement System (e-GP), zambia’s electronic procurement portal , was open for submission of bids from all qualified Zambians to participate in various tenders from any where in Zambia .
And Luwingu District Chairperson His Worship Roderick’s Mulenga thanked TINNA INVESTMENT LTD for employing over 70 locals in the construction of the Bus Station.
His Worship Mr. Mulenga highlighted that his office had always championed for the recruitment of locals by investors in the district.
Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Chief Chipalo said he was elated to witness the implementation of the first ever Modern Bus Terminus in Luwingu. Chief Chipalo said the facility will bring the much needed development in the district and that his Chiefdom will always support government’s developmental agenda .
And speaking earlier, Katopola Ward Councilor, Lewing’s Ngandwe thanked government for the increased scope of CDF from the initial K1.6 million to K36.1 million. Cllr Ngandwe explained that had government not expanded the scope of CDF, the construction of the Modern Bus Station would not have been achieved.
And Lubansenshi Constituency Development Fund Committee (CDFC) Vice -Chairperson Lilian Mulenga, thanked everyone for coming forth to witness the ground breaking ceremony.
Meanwhile, TINNA INVESTMENT LTD Engineering Manager Mwaka Simwinga called on the youths in the district to come forward and apply for temporal jobs at the construction site.
Eng Simwinga said the company was still looking for more human power to effectively execute the works and that the site was open for job applications from Luwingu residents.
