Hh Is Playing A Clever Game, He Will Later Change Term Limit – Mundubile

Mporokoso MP Brian Mundubile says President Hakainde Hichilema cannot be trusted. He says all the things the President says he’s not doing like changing the Constitution to stay in power longer are actually true.
On Sunday, President Hichilema said it was unfair to say he wanted to change the Constitution to add more time to his term, or to remove the running mate system. But on Tuesday, Mundubile said the President is slowly working to do exactly that.
Mundubile said:
“All the things President Hichilema says he is not doing are actually true. He is moving step by step. He wants to remove the 50%+1 rule, remove the running mate, and remove the term limit. He is playing a clever game like chess. His first goal is to win the 2026 election. After that, he will make all the changes he is now denying.”
He gave an example:
“Before, the President said it was a lie that they wanted to give KCM to Vedanta. But later, he confirmed it and said Vedanta is the investor. So, we know he can change his position. It’s the same with the Constitution he said there would be no changes, but now he is working on them.”
Mundubile said it’s wrong for the President to be the one defending the constitutional changes.
“In a process like this, the people should be the ones to suggest changes—not the President. If he keeps saying, ‘I’m not changing the Constitution for this reason,’ that means he is already doing something wrong.”
He also said President Hichilema is trying to gain more power in Parliament.
“He is trying to win more seats in Parliament by changing boundaries and making appointments. If he gets two-thirds of the seats, he can then change more parts of the Constitution after the election.”
Mundubile warned that these changes could help the President unfairly in the 2026 election.
“If the Constitution is changed now, it might help him win in 2026. After that, he could remove important rules like 50+1, the running mate, and the term limit. Other countries have seen this happen before. Many people can see what he’s trying to do.
