Lusaka, 15 April 2025
FIFA, the world football body, has told the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to hold a new elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) within 21 days.
FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga said FIFA warned that the use of normal courts in football matters is not allowed. This follows a court order that stopped the AGM planned for March 29, 2025.
FIFA has now guided FAZ on what to do next. FAZ will soon send out a new notice for the meeting.
FIFA official Elkhan Mammadov said the AGM must happen by May 10, 2025, in Lusaka or a nearby place. He said this follows the FAZ Constitution.
FIFA will also send officials to the meeting, just like they did in Livingstone, to make sure everything is done properly.
FIFA looked into the matter after getting reports from both FAZ and their own team who were in Livingstone for the earlier meeting. They were concerned that a court stopped the AGM less than 24 hours before it was supposed to start.
Mammadov said if FIFA rules are broken—no matter who is responsible FAZ could face suspension.
Now that FIFA has given its direction, FAZ will move forward and call for the new AGM according to the rules.
